+ What editing software do you use?
Whatever the job calls for. I've worked on both AVID and Adobe Premiere Pro systems. I utilize Da Vinci Resolve quite a bit as well.
+ What equipment do you use?
I cut on a 16-inch, 2019 MacBook Pro with the following specs:
- Processor: 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
- Memory: 64 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
- Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
+ Who are you? Why should I care?
My name is Bud Simpson. I'm an Atlanta-based director of photography and independent filmmaker. People who know me well, know that I got my start in video editing. I'm third generation film editor, and have spent countless hours in the editing suite. I also founded a documentary film training program called Stories Found – where I teach editing theory and techniques to emerging filmmakers all over the world.
+ Why does your website say you're a director of photography?
Because I am! I got my start in filmmaking as an editor over ten years ago. I've since worked on over 150 titles. In the last four years, I really began focusing on the part of filmmaking that I love the most: creating images. All the while, I've continued to edit professionally on the side – just not marketing myself as an editor.
+ Why should I hire you as an editor for my project?
In short, I'm a professional editor who is easy to work with.
In long, I've worked on scripted features and shorts, long-form and short-form documentaries, brand films, commercials, corporate videos, film trailers, and instructional content. I've worked alongside Academy Award nominated editors and taught the craft to up-and-coming filmmakers.
What I can bring to your project is a professionally edited piece that aligns with an intentional look and feel, delivered in a timely manner and with a positive attitude.
+ What are your rates?
I charge day rates, half-day rates, weekly rates, and rush job rates. I'm happy to negotiate when working with 501(c)(3) non-profits.
- Day rate: $785.00
- Half-day rate: $392.00
- Weekly rate: $3,875.00
- Rush job (48 hrs. or less): $1,985.00
*Rates don't include hard-costs associated with purchasing music licenses, stock footage, photos, etc.
+ Do you work remotely?
Yes. Almost entirely. I use Dropbox, Vimeo Review pages, and shuttle drives to deliver assets, drafts, and finished projects while working 100% remotely. I keep a running tab of hours and tasks that I can share with clients via Slack upon request.
